The park is nestled along the Verde River, offering a lush contrast to the surrounding desert. The campground is well laid out with plenty of shade trees and a peaceful atmosphere. Check in is easy at the ranger station, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The site itself is level with a nice mix of sun and shade.
Sites are paved and have picnic tables and fire rings. The hookups are reliable, and the water pressure is good. The view to the river and the mountains beyond adds a serene backdrop, and we enjoyed watching the wildlife from our campsite.
Clean bathrooms and showers are available. Firewood can also be bought from the camp hosts or at the ranger station. The park has a small store with basic supplies. There is a dump station on site, which is convenient for RV travelers.
The park offers excellent access to hiking and biking trails, as well as opportunities for fishing in 3 well-stocked ponds. There are also several restaurants and shopping areas in nearby Cottonwood, making it easy to stock up on supplies or enjoy a meal out. The city of Sedona is just a short drive away, offering stunning red rock scenery and a vibrant arts scene. We took a day trip to Sedona and found it to be well worth the visit. The ancient ruins are also worth exploring - these include the Tuzigoot National Monument, which is just a few miles from the park and offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of the region. Montezuma's Castle NM is also a great option for history buffs.
