We easily found the train station and its adjacent parking lot. We had arranged for parking on-line and the lot was well organized. It was a short walk to the station which contains a store, cafe and waiting room. Since we were taking the bus up to Silverton prior to our train trip, we stopped nearby at a bagel shop for breakfast. The bus taking us on the first part of our journey was extremely clean and quite luxurious. The driver was very helpful. The bus also contains a restroom in the back.
The bus ride to Silverton was very scenic and the driver stopped once on trip for a short photo break. Silverton, Colorado was quite touristy but time passed by fast as we explored the shops, galleries and historical areas. The town itself is quite small and it is hard to get lost. After lunch we boarded our train car in downtown Silverton for the trip back to Durango. We were glad that the trip was only one way as the train car was quite noisy (it creeked a lot). The views were wonderful and the tracks follow the Animas River for most of the trip. Food is not available on the train but non-alcoholic drinks are free. The car contained a staff member who made sure we were comfortable and alerted us to various scenic views as we passed.
The views from both the bus and the train were amazing. We enjoyed both parts of our journey to Silverton and back to Durango.
Tickets and parking should be arranged online. No animals other than service animals are allowed.
While we enjoyed this trip we thought it was a bit expensive. We would most likely not do it again.
